History

Godliman & Watson was founded in 1985 by Mr R Iain Watson and Mr M Barry Godliman. After working for a large national house builder they decided that they wanted to be able to provide high quality craftsmanship not only on new build projects but also on refurbishments and domestic work.  Carrying out specialised contract work the business soon began to develop an enviable reputation for quality and growth looked inevitable. The business branched out into domestic work and eventually acquired a plot of land and developed four houses.

This proved to be a catalyst and from then on the company has grown from strength to strength.  With the same values and virtues that are the foundation of the organisation we now incorporate four entities employing 15 people directly and numerous sub-contractors. In 2007 we entered the British Housebuilder Awards and were a top 10 finalist for companies of our size.

We entered the millennium with the completion of a luxury development of 15 houses and 8 apartments, complete with swimming pool, in Prestwich. This development comprised a selection of 2, 3, 4 and 5 bed houses set in a secluded part of the village and overlooking St Mary’s Park.

Following on from this we moved into Whitefield where we built a development known as Hodderway. This development featured 2 and 3 bed properties completed to a high specification. Upon completion of Hodderway we moved to Albert Road in Whitefield and the location of the old Albert Mill. We demolished this property and built 50 houses again, a mix of 2 and 3 bed properties. We worked closely with the local community to devise a scheme that would prove successful and on launching our first show home sold twelve properties in just one day.

As this development neared to a close we purchased an area of land overlooking Albert Park in Broughton, Salford. This site comprised three listed buildings, all of which had to be retained. We therefore set about devising a scheme that would blend and complement the listed buildings. We eventually settled on a mix of Georgian and Victorian style townhouses that were all 3 or 4 bed.  The Albert Park development is also home to Spark Studio, the first Live/Work development within Salford. Working in partnership with Salford Council, Contour Housing Association and the University of Salford we devised a scheme to restore a Grade II listed building into 14 high quality offices and 8 luxury apartments. Designed to retain talent within Salford and give entrepreneurs and local business people the chance to establish themselves in an envious position this scheme has proved extremely popular amongst the local community. The scheme applied for and was successful in securing financial support from the ERDF.

Looking forward Godliman-Watson Homes is well positioned to take advantage of the many opportunities currently presenting themselves. Developments in Whitefield, Bury are currently underway and a major regeneration scheme for over 200 new properties in the Willows area of Salford commencing on site 2012.
