Godliman-Watson Homes Take to the Hills ...

On the 10th - 12th May 2007 Godliman-Watson Homes and employees will be completing the Yorkshire Dales 3 Peaks Challenge. Walking a distance of 25miles and climbing over 1,500 metres in all weathers this promises to be a testing physical challenge. We will be raising funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association and Macmillan Cancer Support.
Each and every day 739 people in the UK are told they have cancer. More than one million people in the UK have diagnosed cancer today, and more than one in three will be diagnosed at some time in their life. As well as taking action today to support people from the moment they suspect they have cancer, Macmillan are shaping the future of cancer care. Thanks to the support they recieve, Macmillan provides the practical and emotional support which makes a real difference to people living with cancer today - and tomorrow.
MND is a fatal disease of the nervous system. It attacks the nerve cells (motor neurones) that send messages from the brain to the muscles. As these motor neurones gradually die, the muscles stop working. Every day, three people in the UK die from MND, and every day three are diagnosed with it. The MND Association promote scientific research and provide funding to specialists seeking to understand, find treatments, and ultimately cure the disease. MND Association currently have 14 Care Centres established that provide essential co-ordinated care services, and an expansion programme is well under way.
We have promised to raise at least £500 for each organisation. We hope to raise much more than this and hope you will consider sponsoring our challenge, which is a small challenge compared with the challenge Cancer and MND patients face each day.
